Global demand for avocados has grown at an unprecedented rate over the last decade, with no signs of slowing down. In response to this trend and to serve our retail and food service partners more effectively, Palo Blanco has undertaken a major expansion of our avocado production capacity.
New Plantations in the Highlands
We have secured and prepared 200 new hectares of ideal high-altitude land in the Guatemalan highlands — the same region where our existing avocado groves have thrived for over 15 years. The cool temperatures and rich volcanic soil at 1,800 meters elevation produce consistently superior fruit with the creamy texture and rich flavor that premium consumers demand.
The new plantations will begin producing commercially in 2027, with partial yield expected in late 2026. This expansion will allow us to serve existing partners with greater volume consistency and open relationships with new international buyers.
Upgraded Processing Facility
Alongside field expansion, we have invested in a major upgrade to our avocado processing and packing facility. The new line features automated grading systems, advanced ripening rooms with precise atmosphere control, and new cold storage capacity. Throughput has increased from 40 to 80 tons per day.
We have also adopted new eco-friendly packaging options in partnership with our retail clients, reducing plastic use by 35% across our avocado SKUs.
What This Means for Our Partners
Existing buyers will benefit from improved supply consistency, more flexible volume commitments, and faster turnaround times from harvest to delivery. We are also now able to offer Hass avocados in both conventional and certified organic formats across all major markets.
