Our History
A story planted with vision
The history of Palo Blanco begins with a deep connection to the land and the desire to build something that would transcend generations.
Carlos Bruderer dedicated his life to the agricultural development of Guatemala. His passion for the countryside, his discipline, and his vision led him to drive projects that, over time, would become a benchmark for what we know today as Corporación Palo Blanco.
More than planting crops, he planted values, opportunities, and a way of working based on commitment, responsibility, and respect for people.
The first steps in Costa Sur
In the early 1960s, Carlos and his brother Alex acquired Finca Primavera, located in Tiquisate, near the Pacific coast. At that time, the region was undergoing an important agricultural transformation. From Primavera began years of growth, learning, and development that would mark the beginning of a story that continues to this day.
During those years, Carlos built a family life tied to the land, living with his wife and children between the farm and the city, while driving new agricultural projects and strengthening his long-term vision.
Growth and expansion
Over the years, the project grew through the incorporation of new farms and the expansion of agricultural operations. The acquisition of Palo Blanco represented an important moment within this stage of growth. Later, other agricultural properties were added that strengthened the company's presence in different regions of the country.
Each new farm meant an opportunity to continue developing Guatemalan agriculture and generating employment for hundreds of families.
More than agriculture: a responsibility to people
For Carlos, the success of a company could not be measured solely by its production. In 1997, together with a group of collaborators, he promoted the Solidarista Association of Workers of the Primavera and Palo Blanco farms, with the purpose of promoting savings and generating benefits for workers' families.
Over time, this initiative grew and in 2011 it was constituted as a Cooperative, expanding its services and opportunities for thousands of associates. This spirit of mutual support and community development continues to be a fundamental part of our identity.
Diversification and vision for the future
Carlos's vision also led him to develop agricultural projects in other regions of Guatemala. In the late 1980s he acquired La Unidad, a coffee farm in the Colomba region of Quetzaltenango, where he promoted the restoration of historic facilities and continued strengthening his bond with agriculture.
Years later, San Rafael was incorporated in the Guatemalan highlands, with the goal of developing Hass avocado cultivation, thus expanding the organization's product diversity.
A legacy that continues
The history of Palo Blanco is built on decades of work, perseverance, and love for Guatemala. Today we continue to honor the legacy of Carlos Bruderer by keeping alive the principles that gave rise to the company: vision, effort, innovation, respect for people, and commitment to excellence.
Every crop, every collaborator, and every project is part of a story that continues to grow generation after generation.
